Jack's 21 Month Update (5 days late :/)

At 21 Months, Jack is...

- beginning to show his more defiant side and is now saying the word "No" with actual meaning. For example when we went to the park last month and I told Jack it was time to leave, for the first time ever, he said "No,No,No." I couldn't believe what I had heard and hoped that we could avoid this stage all together. The only way I could convince him to leave was to say goodbye to all of the equipment. Yesterday, when we were at Target, we let him pick a snack to munch on while we shopped. The choice was between Annie's Honey Bunnies or Annie's Assorted Bunnies. At first he pointed to the assorted kind, and when I went to put the honey flavor back and began opening the assorted kind, in a very frustrated, angry, loud voice, he said "No, No, No.' Apparently he changed his mind and decided he wanted the honey kind after all. And let's not forget about the very few times when we are in a public place if I let Jack walk, rather than being carried or put in the cart, and he bolts as soon as his feet hit the floor. When I stop him and say "Jack, if you want to walk, you have to hold mommy's hand," he goes completely limp and throws a fit. Though in the past couple days, he has been doing very well with holding hands, so much so, that we even went for a walk around the block, without a stroller. Even though it took  forevvvvvvveeeeeeerrr.

- imitating what he sees and hears, a lot. For instance, when Matt and his dad were putting in the new floors all Jack wanted to do was help. He loved holding the hammer, while grandpa pounded the nails in. Meanwhile, the entire time he was getting in the way helping, he continuously repeated the word "hammer." Whenever he climbs up on our bed, he wags his fingers, referring to "The Five Little Monkey's Song," when the mama calls the doctor. He repeats several words on command such as dinner, circle, and uh-oh. He also says up and down, while repeating the actions. For up he goes on tip toes and for down he squats towards the floors. It's pretty adorable.

-OBSESSED with books. It is pretty much the only thing he is interested in doing these days. He loves to grab his books, one by one, off of the shelf and page through them until there are no more books left on the shelf and instead they are scattered all over the floor.

Sleep Habits...

Jack's sleep has significantly improved from last month. On average, he wakes up one time per night, and even sleeping through the night on occasion. Ever since daylight savings began, he has been sleeping in until 7:30 most days, and if we are really lucky, sometimes as late as 8:30. Now that it is light outside for a longer period of time, most nights we are lucky to have Jack in bed by 8:00, which could also explain why he has been sleeping in so late.

Due to all the chaos of home renovations, Jack's nap times haven't been as consistent as I would like. The entire 5 days that Matt and his dad were installing the flooring, I had to drive around, just so he could catch a nap in his car seat. On a normal day, I usually put jack down around 12:30, and he will at least give me an hour and a half, if not 2.

Favorite Foods...

- Yogurt
- Milk and Juice (I just recently started incorporating juice into his diet, because I don't see the harm, as long as I limit it. I only give him 4-5 ounces, once a day and I either water it down or give him the all natural, low in sugar kind.)
- Clementines
- Grapes

Stats...

- Jack weighs about 35 lbs, possibly even more. I will know for sure at his next weigh-in.
- Clothing size depends on the brand, but for the most part Jack is a 3T in tops and 2T in bottoms.
- Size 7 1/2 Shoe.

Extra Curricular...

- The Y for about an hour, 3 times a week.
- The Little Gym, every Friday, with Dad.

This happens on a daily basis.
